  2. To this project I contributed the organization aspects such as emailing and getting the groups together, coming up with the concepts and the scripts for the video, and acting in the video as well as being present for the filming... and ditto!

  8. My main role in this project was editing with Mason. When the movie project was assigned, I thought that recording the movie would take most of the time but I actually learned quickly that editing would take much more time. Being responsible for editing showed me real life examples of how access can be defined so many different ways and how it effects what you can and can't do. When we first started to edit we had access to the computers and the software that we needed but we could not get the videos uploaded because they were in the wrong format. Since the videos were in the wrong format it took me and Mason, who are literate with computers, nearly 2 hours just to upload the videos to the computer. Even though we had access to everything we needed to edit the videos editing still took longer than it should since we were not able to efficiently use the digital video camera. What happen to me and Mason clearly represents how access can be defined on so many different levels and just not as having access to a computer.

  9. When we were brainstorming for the project, we decided to do something a little outside of the box and not just discuss the digital divide and libraries. We thought of focusing on cell phones because they are really important to us as college students. The majority of our group members live in the dorms, where we don't even have the option of having a land line phone, so we need to depend on our cell phones for reaching our friends, families, classmates, employers, etc. We dealt with the issue of connectivity, one of the four components of access described in the article by Kvasny, Kranich, and Schement from what I think was the 5th week of class. A cell connection is crucial to the use of a cell phone.

I helped write, plan and act in the video.

  10. To elaborate on my involvement in the movie and what i learned:

My main role was to edit the film and post it online. This was an extremely difficult task. First, the camera we used put the video in the wrong format so only the sound was transferred to the computer. Then, iMovie was not cooperating so we had to use the PCs. We then downloaded a format converter, along with many other things. This whole process took roughly 2 hours, not including the actual editing. I dont consider myself a computer genius, but i didnt expect it to take that long to figure it out. Someone with more experience and a better "capability" could have done my job with ease. Jenna and i had access, but it still wasnt enough. Its quite ironic how that relates to the class! I learned how to use a FLIP phone as well. I really enjoyed brainstorming ideas with the group and making a video that was different and entertaining. I also uploaded the movie to YouTube and the blog. This involved getting an ID, but other than that it wasnt very difficult.

  11. I was mostly involved with the planning of the video down to the most specific details such as the positioning of the group members. Katie and I arrived early after doing emailing and planning to meet and started writing a script that became very specific and had many footnotes. We re-wrote the entire script and I partook in acting in it and also stayed for everyone to film themselves and be filmed and gave my input for each part of the video. I was aware of every change that was made during the editing (which I was not a part of because I did emailing and script writing and directing if you will) and I was aware of the location of the cameras and every other piece of equipment at all times.

  12. To elaborate on my contribution.
Initially I thought of using cell phones for this project to show how digital divide could happen in an any day event. I thought of the idea because i also didnt want our group to have a more interesting topic. Some of my group mates liked it and we used it for the script. While setting up for a meeting we ironically couldnt get a hold of two of our group members on cell phones. I contributed to some parts of the script(some of the dialogue) and some of the ideas during actually filming(such as what characters would be doing). I also helped brainstorm the idea to use statistics during the film to bring some evidence to what we would be talking about. I was an actor in the film also. It was one of the only group projects were the distribution of work was fairly equal and ppl cooperated well.
